move all files and folders off desktop?

how could i move all files and folders off the desktop and into another folder or drive?

Your desktop is simple folder too and you can work with desktop as with another folder.
By default local desktop is
C:\Users\<UserName>\Desktop\
under Vista and Windows 7

what would be the best approach to do this? the syncronise folders option, or something else?
