I just read an article in the MSDN magazine about this software, and was amazed of the things that it can do. I downloaded the trial version but i cant get the application on the thing that i wanted to do.
well, what i really wanted to do is:
1. check if an application Ethereal is running in certain hosts.
2. if the application is not running, automatically start the application with the parameters like which network interface to use, the location of the log file for the application, and some other parameters that the application is needed to be set.
Can this be done in Robotask?
we already have tried to do this thing in Windows Tasks combined with some scripts but it did nt work well.

You can check running of Ethereal by using the "Check for Window" action. If main window of application exists the application is running.

2. if the application is not running, automatically start the application with the parameters like which network interface to use, the location of the log file for the application, and some other parameters that the application is needed to be set.

To run application use the "Run Program/Open Document" action. Also you can specify any needed parameters for running the application.

However, I missed some things.
1.I need to check the Ethereal application is running in a number of "remote" hosts. How do i set that? I tried to run it to check in my local pc and it works but i dont know how to tell Robotask to check on other hosts.
2.Also, I need to do this in a regular basis, perhaps the most appropriate would be to check per hour. And I also plan to send alerts thru mails if the application was found to be stopped. Well, i guess from the example i can figure that out, only the first problem is the one i dont know how to deal with.
 

RoboTask can check windows at local computer only. RoboTask must be installed at computer, where you want to automate some tasks. It's not necessary to log on this computer, RoboTask can work as NT service.
Now we prepare some network functions, which makes possible to control remote RoboTasks.

You can send the mail alert by using the "Send Email" action.
