Can somebody explain the difference between these 2 modes?

Smart Mode says its recorder fixes windows and control elements where mouse clicks take place. Also macro recorder records coordinates concerning the window and the control element. I don't know what that means.

And I'm guessing Absolute Coordinates Only means that if my screen is 17" and I record at the 16th" Inch (X-Axis) this will be a different location on a 24" screen?

When you use Smart mode of mouse recorder then it tries to convert mouse movements to "Move to an Object" actions and mouse clicks.

Absolute coordinates means that mouse recorder will convert your movements to actions Mouse Move and mouse clicks. Recorder will fix only mouse coordinates on the screen and doesn't record parameters of the windows and elements of the window.
The coordinates of mouse cursor gauges in pixels from top-left corner of main screen. Coordinates doesn't depend on physical screen size.
For example: monitors 17" and 19" may have the same dimensions 1280*1024
