Lost editing rights to the tasks created

Post by AnkitaHundal »

Hi,
I created a number of tasks for automating some daily
procedures at work and they are saved in the default
folder as defined by Robotask. I installed NT service and
started it. My bad, I did not notice that the task
default paths were different for both modes, stopped and
uninstalled the NT service, rebooted Ws and t hen
relaunched Robotask.
I am now not able to edit my scripts. I says access is
denied.I neither could import the tasks from the older
folder, to the NT default task folder.
Please advise how can I get back the access rights (
Urgent priority) and also import tasks into the NT serice
robotask if possible.
Appreciate the help.Cheers,
Ankita Hundal

What operating system?
What folder do you use?
By default RoboTask application keeps own tasks in user profile and you should have the full access to this folder.

The simplest way:
- Open the tasks folder in Windows Explorer
- Right-click of free space and open properties
- Go to "Security" tab
- Set full access permissions for you or for "Everyone"

Lost editing rights to the tasks created

Hi Oleg,

Platform is WinXP
The security permissions were the first of he checks i
made and they still give me full control.
The task folder is
C:\Documents and Settings\a_hundal\Local
Settings\Application Data\RoboTask\Tasks.

The access denied message came up in the logs when i
tried editing the tasks after making the NT service
install and uninstall. Would it have made any changes to
any other service that might vary some security settings?

Thanks for the prompt response!

Hey Oleg,
I duplicated and deleted the older scripts.
Am able to edit the new ones now.

Would still like to know why the access was denied.

RoboTask service is working under SYSTEM account (not under your account). When service rewrites the task it applies own rights to file.
In other words the owner of task file is SYSTEM and simple user can't change the file by default.

RoboTask application and RoboTask service have different tasks folders by default. This was made on purpose in order to separate service and application.
Service and application works in different environment with different rights.
